Jack update # 1

Hi everyone!!!  Hope you all have have a great couple of weeks!!!   Finally I'm in the mood and along with a few quiet moments to myself, the kiddos are still in bed, to fill you in on how things are going around here.  So here goes, I believe I ended last with Jack having a week in his cast before he had another appointment in London at The Children's Hospital.  On July 16 was his first appointment, everything was going great so we thought:)  Then the Dr. said that he wanted to admit him.  What!  I think Chris and I were in shock for a few seconds.  They said that they were going to go call about a bed for him and I think they got the hint by the looks on our faces we weren't ready for what they had just said. lol.  We both looked at each other and said but we don't have anything with us.  Seeing as we live 2 hours away they told us to go home get everything figured out with the girls and to pack our bags for the week, then come back tomorrow.  We ended up going back to the hospital the next day (Tuesday) and Jack was admitted for his hospital stay.   For our hospital stay Jack was taken out of his cast and put into traction.  Which is weights hanging off the end of his right leg and him laying on his back for a week.  How in the world to you keep a 2 1/2 year old on his back for 8 days, well stickers were the greatest thing ever!!!
Our days consisted of: sleeping in because we were up so much through the night, with pain or vitals needed.
waking up to watch treehouse
breakfast
watching Treehouse
play with trucks
stickers on paper the ripping them off again
still watching Treehouse
colouring and ripping the colouring books apart
putting stickers all over ourselves
lunch
watching Treehouse
putting stickers on paper
playing with Thomas the train
maybe some colouring
NAP TIME!!!!!   (we both did)
waking up
watching more Treehouse
sticking stickers everywhere
Supper
we were still watching TV. (treehouse)
colouring on paper
ripping paper to shreds
playing with toy animals
playing with trucks and cars
more stickers!!!
Eventually it was night time and when we had a window bed or no neighbour next to us we put the city to sleep.

Through out the week we did change a few things up, we got some bubbles, new stickers, a personal DVD player, and some new toys, and books!

I was very worried about how he was going to be for the week, but he was pretty good through out our 8 day stay.  We ended up coming home on the 25 of July just before midnight.  The senior resident wanted us to stay another night because Jack went into the OR so late but we were ready to go home.  The reason for him having to go to the OR was not for surgery but they did have to put him under to put his cast on.  We are still thanking God that he has not had to have any surgery, because down the road he would then have to have more surgery's.

Our fingers are crossed that at Jacks next appointment Aug, 17 his x-rays are looking great!!!

So I better go, we have swimming lessons to get to.

Have a great rest of the day!!!

Jack

Hi Everyone!!!   Hoping that everyone is haveing a great summer!!!
We have ran into some road blocks along the way but we are not going to let it slow us down!  Well maybe for a few days here and there, lol.

So this summer I have taken my cakes to a new level.  I am offically a Business Women!!!  This is something that I have been thinking about for the last 2 years, but was not ready.  And now its my time to shine like I never have before!!!   I have started to attend the Farmers Market in Goderich,Ont. on the Square.  Its every Saturday from 8am-1pm.  (so that another step forward)  Although I have had a few bumps in the road.

One being this one. (yes OMG!)

Last Saturday I attended the Farmers Market, which went great!!!  I have been taking Emma with me, shes a great help!!!  So at 1pm we were packing up and I had a lady come up to me with a piece of paper in her hand, She asked me if I was Kendall and if Jack Maize was my son.  (i said yes to both)  Then this lady said Jack's in Emerg and theres something wrong with his hip.  "Oh, oh OK,  I just finish packing up I will be there in 5 minutes"  Somewhere I realize that she was a nurse and how crazy is it that she came and found me here at the Market.  WOW!!!   We drove a little faster to the hospital, but when I turned the corner at the Emerg enterance to park thats when it hit me this is very serious!!!  The truck was parked right at the emerg entrance with the four ways on.  Oh no.  Emma and I ran into the hospital.  Someone stopped me before I got into the room to tell me what had happened.  When I stepped into the room it was so heart wrenching I seen Jack in the bed with Chris and Zoe by his side, and all I heard was beeping and a whole lota of voices.  Shock set in and turned around and stepped out of the room.  I heard my voice a few times saying ny name but it wasnt regestering. A few seconds later I walked back into the room. There were people (nurses) everywere!!!  And a on looker that I wanted to go scream at!!!

It only takes a second for accident to happen. And that all it took when it came to Jack.  Chris accidently ran him over with a trailer that he was pulling behind the four wheeler.  They had gone back our side road to pick me some flowers and on the way back they had to pull over into the ditch (which is cut flat grass) to let a car go by. Just before Chris got stopped he seen Zoe right beside him and then it was to late Jack had followed her out of the trailer.  Chris looked back to see if Jack was still sitting in the trailer and wasn't.  He got off the four wheeler and Jack was sitting there on the grass, he was trying to get up but couldn't.  When Chris picked him up he realized what he had done.  He drove back home (20 seconds up the road) Got the truck and drove into the hospital.

So back to only being in the room for a few minutes one of the Nureses said that the Hospital was on code Orange.  Im thinking "What?, what does that code mean?"  The Helicopter was on its way to Airlift Jack to London, ontario to the Childern's Hospital.  I was still in shock from it all and I wanted Chris to go in the helicopter, and he wanted me to go.  Poor Chris,  I couldn't even imagan how he must of felt with what had happened!  All I could do was be strong for us all!  Jack was going to be OK, thats what I kept telling myself.  And prayed like never before!!!
When we got to London they did more x-rays and ultra sounds. And determand that he only had a broken femur which was high up close to his hip bone.  And at exaclly this time (11:30pm) last Saturday we were heading to the sugery room with Jack.
It only seemed like a few minutes past when the surgan came into the waiting room to say that everything went great!!!  No words can explain what we felt!!!

Well thats it in a nut shell, We are all doing better with everything!!!

So untill then,    Kendall     oxox

Fun filled day!!!

Hello everyone!!!
Hope you all had a fun filled day!
I sure did!!!
I was city bound first thing this morning as soon as the kids were on the bus I hit the highway!  When I was younger going to the city was always great, but I was there all the time.  And now I'm like a kid in a candy store when going to the city because I NEVER go anymore. Maybe a couple times a year.  But I have a feeling that that's going to change!!!  So today I got my day away!!!  Happy Mommy!!!
Although the next time I'm going to hit up some cake/cupcake shops to try their sweet goodness that they are creating in the city, as well as visit great family!!!
So next time I better remember to take out the camera.  (unfortunately I have no pics to show you:(  )

Now I'm off to bake like a made woman!!!

Until then,   Kendall   oxox

Peony Wedding Cake

Hello Everyone!!!   Its been way to long!!!!
This past weekend, well in fact most of last week I worked on this cake for a family friend.

Congratulations Kristina & Eddie!!!

The cake that I created for them was Vanilla cake layered with homemade Lemon Curd, iced with Lemon Butter Cream.

Kristina's favorite flower is the peony.  Let me tell ya we were all glad when they were still out in bloom for her special day!!!  So I also created these sugar peony's for the top of their wedding cake.

These pictures are from different angles,  I LOVED making these!!!!!

I felt kinda famous for a split sec when I delivered this to the venue, when I had one of their little nieces ask me if I was The Cake Designer.  Hello,  I think my eyes were as big a saucers and i was in surprising shock, and then I think I started to chuckle and then I came out "I'm trying to be"
What the heck you do say that to a 10 year old.  I should have been saying "Yes, I am, Would you like to watch me put this together".   She was so cute!!!  She stood there and watched me place the flowers on the cake with the biggest grin the whole time!   Priceless!!!

My first sugar Peony that I worked on.  I had so much fun!  They do take alot of time and days ahead because they need 2-4 days drying time.  The humidity doesn't help the drying time at all.

Here they are drying.  I have tin foil placed over bowls and plastic wrap around them to help them keep there shape while they dry.

Homemade lemon curd.  If you are a lemon type of person you so need to make this!!!  One of the best things ever!!!  (I'm the lemon type)

I hope that you all enjoyed.

Until then, Kendall   oxox

The past month or so?

Hello to the winding down of the weekend, and the beginning of a NEW week!   Yesterday I mentioned that we had been up to a lot of things.  So here's just some of it.

Sporting some new toes after a visit with my Mother.  (me and mom time is always great!!!)

Here are the baskets that I created from all my Mothers Day flowers.  I made up four altogether, which hang at our back doorways.

And more Mothers Day flowers!

Up close and personal.

At the side of our patio are my beloved flowers the Peony.  They came out in full bloom last week.  A week and a half is about all I get of these lovelies.
Walking up to our back door smells great!!!

More flowers out in bloom!

What I have planted in my front urn.

About Four weeks ago we put up our pool.  Just a bit crazy considering we had to have a fire going in our house again in JUNE!!! To keep our little tozzies warm.  YES you read that right!!!   (but then again were not the only ones with crazy weather)  But over the long weekend in May the kids were swimming in the pool, to cold for me!!!  I believe it was 62.  But the kids loved it!!!
Got ta love June Bugs!!!  These little guys were taking a dip too, hahaha

Having a blast!!!

So this is the colour that I chose for painting the outside of our house.  But before I could finish the job I started I had to put up some new ceder shingles.  My goal was to have this done by the time Chris got home from his Fishing Trip.  With only a couple hours to spare.....

This is how it turned out.  I LOVE IT!!!  i was a few shingles short :(
But looks so much better then before!
But when it poors rain you can see all my paint drippings,LOL.  Although in good weather it blends right in, LOL!

The hearts still there only because there was about twenty nails holding it there, and I was a weakling.  So I guess I'm on the hunt for something else, yes, no???
What about a pair of antlers?????

Until then,  Kendall     oxox
