It's Hunting Season!

Hi Everyone, Hunting season is in full swing here.  Chris got home last week from his 2 week Moose Hunting Trip up North, 20 some hours north.
Unfortunately no moose for our freezer, but he did have one encounter with a Bull on their last day, To bad they couldn't have stayed longer!!!
But in the end he did enjoy himself!!!

And for some exciting news Chris just came in from getting a Big Deer Buck, a Big 6 pointer!!!  WHOOT!!!  Food for our family!!!

And again some more exciting news, while Chris was away moose hunting, I went and got myself a job. Yes you read that right, after being home for eight years with our children it is time that I spend time outside the home. I'm now ready for this part of my life!  (but only part time)  This leaves me plenty of time for my Cake Creating @ Kendall's Kakes!

Sorry folks, I have no pics to show you right now, but I will!

So until then, have a great night!!!

WOW Weekend, My second Year

Hello again!!!
Hope you all had a great few days!  Since school has started I feel like we have had so much to do, and I thought that we would get a little break once the girls were back in school, hahaha
Although I did have a small break and travelled north with a few awesome ladies!  Our WOW  Weekend was fun, better then last year!  The OFAH puts this weekend on to encourage women to get out doors and to try new things!  I found it very relaxing, even though there was no down time. lol.  There's nothing like being caught on a lake in a catamaran (2 canoes tied together with sticks) and a storm blows in.  Paddling against the wind and rain to get back to shore is something I will probably never do again.  To me it got a bit wavy.  Thankfully it was a smaller lake (but it was big enough for me)  Personally, I pretended that I was in a dragon boat race to get my mind off it all, lol!  (i have only been i a canoe a few times) What a work out!!!

The beginning of our adventure.

Once again, my first cast!!!  Two years in a row on my first cast I caught a fish

I love Bass fishing!!!

Carrie's first catch of the day!!!   Love the Seaforth Rain Gear,  (from my home town)

The rain started but that didn't stop us from fishing!

When we got back to shore.  Still Smiling

The sauna was get!!!

I need me a pair of these!

Our last morning.  What a view!!!

I got my nerve up to go ring the bell.

Now i truly get it, why Chris loves to hunt.  As soon as I parked my behind in the tree stand all my worries in life washed away, but only for a few minutes.

Until then,  Kendall oxox

Hi Everyone!!!

Hi Everyone!!!!  I'm still hanging around here (if you were still wondering)

A lot has taken place here over the last weeks,

JACK IS WALKING AGAIN!!!!!

(he is now stating to run, not far, but still its a run!)

At his last check up which was a week ago, we got great news, everything looks great, his leg is a little shorter but not much.  So we don't have to back for SIX months!!!  We made a  lot of trips to London this summer but not for leisure so when Jack had his last appointment we made it our Family Vacation.  Everyone had a great time!!!

Sorry there sideways :(

They had a blast in the pool at the Hotel we stayed at!!!
It's Heated!!!  Enough Said!!!  (so is the floor around the pool) even better!!

These were the fish swimming in the stream beside the pool.  Jack loved them!!!  And I spent my time holding on to his belt loop.

Bedtime was great, movie watching on their own TV.

Once again sideways, this is the best we could do rubber boots and all, lol.   When we left it was raining cats and dogs.

Now that Jacks getting around again, we are starting potty training all over again.  (he was almost there before the accident, diapers only at night)
He is doing great once again!!!

I also went on my WOW Weekend 2 weeks ago, and received an awesome parcel in the mail!!!
But I'm going to leave that for another day, like tomorrow.

Until Then, have a great night!!!

Hockey/Swimming Party Cake

Hey everyone I'm back!  Its been a while since i blogged two days back to back.  I have been missing it, but just couldn't find my groove.

So in between Jacks accident & hospital stays we were home for a week and I did have a few cake orders to fulfill.  Which was great because we were trying to keep things as normal as possible.
So when this young girls mom called me  (an old neighbour from growing up) I hopped right on it, hockey was also my favorite sport growing up. I also played it too.  But that's for another day.
This day was all about Miss J.  I was told that her favorite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs.  And she was having a swimming party.  So this is what I delivered to her.

Happy Birthday Jaymie!!!

This cake was all Chocolate!!!  The bottom tier is a Hockey Jersey.

(Do to lighting I had to place the cake in 2 different places)

So that's it, in a nut shell for tonight.

Tomorrow I will have some pictures of what we will be up to this week.
Stay tuned,  Until then

Jack update # 2

Hello Everyone!!!  So today more then ever in last 6 weeks are so I'm counting down our days!!!  This coming Friday we head to London again for Jack.  Our fingers have been crossed for a few days now and Chris has told me that he prays every night for him.  (love it!)  I to have been praying like crazy as well!  And Jack, well he has been great though this all, which surprises me everyday!!!  (he does have his moments, but what 2 1/2 year old doesn't, hahaha)  I will get a great picture of this cast for you (coming soon) Its the best cast ever, our family fav, CAMOFLOUGE.  What would be a better fit,  LOL!

And while I have been inside alot this summer and became garden lazy these favorite things of mine showed there true colours.  I so did not love and cherish them this summer :(
Although Chris came in many of nights with a bouquet of flowers for me!  How loving his he!!!  It meant so much!!!

(To a dear friend Alyshia, this is for you!)

After how many years these finally bloomed amazingly. And a few were huge!!!  I transplanted these 4/5 years ago!

My mom loves this colour of hollyhock.  She said that she has never seen this colour.  But they change colour every growing season. You never know what your going to get!

These hocks grow pretty tall this year, even after the cold weather we got that stunted everything else.  I also thought that I pulled these all out of my garden, but they started growing late, and for once they were not taken over by a mildew or any other bug.  They have staying very healthy!

Well that's it for now,

Until then,  Kendall     oxox

Jack update # 1

Hi everyone!!!  Hope you all have have a great couple of weeks!!!   Finally I'm in the mood and along with a few quiet moments to myself, the kiddos are still in bed, to fill you in on how things are going around here.  So here goes, I believe I ended last with Jack having a week in his cast before he had another appointment in London at The Children's Hospital.  On July 16 was his first appointment, everything was going great so we thought:)  Then the Dr. said that he wanted to admit him.  What!  I think Chris and I were in shock for a few seconds.  They said that they were going to go call about a bed for him and I think they got the hint by the looks on our faces we weren't ready for what they had just said. lol.  We both looked at each other and said but we don't have anything with us.  Seeing as we live 2 hours away they told us to go home get everything figured out with the girls and to pack our bags for the week, then come back tomorrow.  We ended up going back to the hospital the next day (Tuesday) and Jack was admitted for his hospital stay.   For our hospital stay Jack was taken out of his cast and put into traction.  Which is weights hanging off the end of his right leg and him laying on his back for a week.  How in the world to you keep a 2 1/2 year old on his back for 8 days, well stickers were the greatest thing ever!!!
Our days consisted of: sleeping in because we were up so much through the night, with pain or vitals needed.
waking up to watch treehouse
breakfast
watching Treehouse
play with trucks
stickers on paper the ripping them off again
still watching Treehouse
colouring and ripping the colouring books apart
putting stickers all over ourselves
lunch
watching Treehouse
putting stickers on paper
playing with Thomas the train
maybe some colouring
NAP TIME!!!!!   (we both did)
waking up
watching more Treehouse
sticking stickers everywhere
Supper
we were still watching TV. (treehouse)
colouring on paper
ripping paper to shreds
playing with toy animals
playing with trucks and cars
more stickers!!!
Eventually it was night time and when we had a window bed or no neighbour next to us we put the city to sleep.

Through out the week we did change a few things up, we got some bubbles, new stickers, a personal DVD player, and some new toys, and books!

I was very worried about how he was going to be for the week, but he was pretty good through out our 8 day stay.  We ended up coming home on the 25 of July just before midnight.  The senior resident wanted us to stay another night because Jack went into the OR so late but we were ready to go home.  The reason for him having to go to the OR was not for surgery but they did have to put him under to put his cast on.  We are still thanking God that he has not had to have any surgery, because down the road he would then have to have more surgery's.

Our fingers are crossed that at Jacks next appointment Aug, 17 his x-rays are looking great!!!

So I better go, we have swimming lessons to get to.

Have a great rest of the day!!!

Jack

Hi Everyone!!!   Hoping that everyone is haveing a great summer!!!
We have ran into some road blocks along the way but we are not going to let it slow us down!  Well maybe for a few days here and there, lol.

So this summer I have taken my cakes to a new level.  I am offically a Business Women!!!  This is something that I have been thinking about for the last 2 years, but was not ready.  And now its my time to shine like I never have before!!!   I have started to attend the Farmers Market in Goderich,Ont. on the Square.  Its every Saturday from 8am-1pm.  (so that another step forward)  Although I have had a few bumps in the road.

One being this one. (yes OMG!)

Last Saturday I attended the Farmers Market, which went great!!!  I have been taking Emma with me, shes a great help!!!  So at 1pm we were packing up and I had a lady come up to me with a piece of paper in her hand, She asked me if I was Kendall and if Jack Maize was my son.  (i said yes to both)  Then this lady said Jack's in Emerg and theres something wrong with his hip.  "Oh, oh OK,  I just finish packing up I will be there in 5 minutes"  Somewhere I realize that she was a nurse and how crazy is it that she came and found me here at the Market.  WOW!!!   We drove a little faster to the hospital, but when I turned the corner at the Emerg enterance to park thats when it hit me this is very serious!!!  The truck was parked right at the emerg entrance with the four ways on.  Oh no.  Emma and I ran into the hospital.  Someone stopped me before I got into the room to tell me what had happened.  When I stepped into the room it was so heart wrenching I seen Jack in the bed with Chris and Zoe by his side, and all I heard was beeping and a whole lota of voices.  Shock set in and turned around and stepped out of the room.  I heard my voice a few times saying ny name but it wasnt regestering. A few seconds later I walked back into the room. There were people (nurses) everywere!!!  And a on looker that I wanted to go scream at!!!

It only takes a second for accident to happen. And that all it took when it came to Jack.  Chris accidently ran him over with a trailer that he was pulling behind the four wheeler.  They had gone back our side road to pick me some flowers and on the way back they had to pull over into the ditch (which is cut flat grass) to let a car go by. Just before Chris got stopped he seen Zoe right beside him and then it was to late Jack had followed her out of the trailer.  Chris looked back to see if Jack was still sitting in the trailer and wasn't.  He got off the four wheeler and Jack was sitting there on the grass, he was trying to get up but couldn't.  When Chris picked him up he realized what he had done.  He drove back home (20 seconds up the road) Got the truck and drove into the hospital.

So back to only being in the room for a few minutes one of the Nureses said that the Hospital was on code Orange.  Im thinking "What?, what does that code mean?"  The Helicopter was on its way to Airlift Jack to London, ontario to the Childern's Hospital.  I was still in shock from it all and I wanted Chris to go in the helicopter, and he wanted me to go.  Poor Chris,  I couldn't even imagan how he must of felt with what had happened!  All I could do was be strong for us all!  Jack was going to be OK, thats what I kept telling myself.  And prayed like never before!!!
When we got to London they did more x-rays and ultra sounds. And determand that he only had a broken femur which was high up close to his hip bone.  And at exaclly this time (11:30pm) last Saturday we were heading to the sugery room with Jack.
It only seemed like a few minutes past when the surgan came into the waiting room to say that everything went great!!!  No words can explain what we felt!!!

Well thats it in a nut shell, We are all doing better with everything!!!

So untill then,    Kendall     oxox

Fun filled day!!!

Hello everyone!!!
Hope you all had a fun filled day!
I sure did!!!
I was city bound first thing this morning as soon as the kids were on the bus I hit the highway!  When I was younger going to the city was always great, but I was there all the time.  And now I'm like a kid in a candy store when going to the city because I NEVER go anymore. Maybe a couple times a year.  But I have a feeling that that's going to change!!!  So today I got my day away!!!  Happy Mommy!!!
Although the next time I'm going to hit up some cake/cupcake shops to try their sweet goodness that they are creating in the city, as well as visit great family!!!
So next time I better remember to take out the camera.  (unfortunately I have no pics to show you:(  )

Now I'm off to bake like a made woman!!!

Until then,   Kendall   oxox

Peony Wedding Cake

Hello Everyone!!!   Its been way to long!!!!
This past weekend, well in fact most of last week I worked on this cake for a family friend.

Congratulations Kristina & Eddie!!!

The cake that I created for them was Vanilla cake layered with homemade Lemon Curd, iced with Lemon Butter Cream.

Kristina's favorite flower is the peony.  Let me tell ya we were all glad when they were still out in bloom for her special day!!!  So I also created these sugar peony's for the top of their wedding cake.

These pictures are from different angles,  I LOVED making these!!!!!

I felt kinda famous for a split sec when I delivered this to the venue, when I had one of their little nieces ask me if I was The Cake Designer.  Hello,  I think my eyes were as big a saucers and i was in surprising shock, and then I think I started to chuckle and then I came out "I'm trying to be"
What the heck you do say that to a 10 year old.  I should have been saying "Yes, I am, Would you like to watch me put this together".   She was so cute!!!  She stood there and watched me place the flowers on the cake with the biggest grin the whole time!   Priceless!!!

My first sugar Peony that I worked on.  I had so much fun!  They do take alot of time and days ahead because they need 2-4 days drying time.  The humidity doesn't help the drying time at all.

Here they are drying.  I have tin foil placed over bowls and plastic wrap around them to help them keep there shape while they dry.

Homemade lemon curd.  If you are a lemon type of person you so need to make this!!!  One of the best things ever!!!  (I'm the lemon type)

I hope that you all enjoyed.

Until then, Kendall   oxox
